Mission Statement
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Chapter History
The first steps toward the organization of what was then called the Weber County Chapter of the American Red Cross were taken in the fall of 1915. After an evening meeting on December 14, at the Weber Club the board members were selected to organize and forward the work of the American Red Cross in our community. So, on December 15th, 1915, the Weber County Chapter began. The American Red Cross has been a lifeline to our nation and in our community.
As World War I started, the Weber County Chapter began serving the servicemen passing through the Union Depot. The chapter continued serving servicemen and their families through World War II. They also recruited nurses on behalf of the military, as well as social workers and recreation specialist to ease the discomfort of civilians being drafted. In years to come the Chapter responded to and continues to respond by helping provide relief to the fire fighters and other officers responding to wildfires, housefires, and other local disasters.
Although our Chapter name has changed from the Weber County Chapter to the Bonneville Chapter to the American Red Cross of Northern Utah, our mission to provide relief to victims of disaster and help people around the world, around the nation and around the corner prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies has never changed.
